Chromatic Oasis

Fayoum, Egypt, 2015

Art installation by Angèle Keserwany in the frame of the Oshtoora, art and music festival.

The materials used for the installation include recycled wood and cardboard cut from boxes, along with colored filters that can be reused in filming.

The art and music festival, titled "Oshtoora," is an initiative created by Egyptian artists to promote art and music originating from the Middle East.

"Chromatic Oasis" is an installation inspired by the concept of a village square, where people meet by coincidence and settle in to exchange in a pleasant atmosphere. As the festival takes place in the Fayoum desert, colored shadows creates a contrast with the monotonous desert backdrop and draw attention to this magical spot that changes shapes with the movement of the sun.

The process was challenging as it was carried out for 15 days in the desert, but fortunately, collective work with more than 20 volunteers enabled us to accomplish the mission and the process itself became a space for exchange and new friendships. the installation naturally played its role during the three days of the festival, becoming the focal point between the tents, the stage, and the common area.
