First International Workshop on Earthen Architecture, World Heritage :

                “  Conservation problems and challenges  ”

Organizers: The municipality of Yazd, with the support of several organizations including; ICOMOS, CRAterre, UNESCO.

Objectives: Deepening understanding of earth architecture values, Pathology and identification of adobe bricks and earth architecture, discussion on conservation challenges, exchange of ideas on conservation/restoration approaches, sustainable urban development, and earth architecture.

A 5000-year-old city in the central Iranian desert, Yazd stands as a timeless testament to the enduring legacy of earth architecture. Renowned for its labyrinthine streets, adobe structures, and ancient wind towers, Yazd embodies a rich tapestry of cultural heritage and architectural marvels. Against this backdrop, the workshop aimed to delve deeper into the intrinsic values of earthen architecture.

The majority of activities involved practical hands-on workshops exploring pathology and identifying adobe bricks. Additionally, we had the opportunity to engaged in enlightening discussions on the contemporary challenges of conservation and restoration. Exchange of ideas flourished as we collectively pondered sustainable approaches to urban development within the context of Yazd's unique architectural heritage.
